In the 2009-10 season, Silva managed to score a total of 8 goals which helped Valencia reach the 3rdposition in the UEFA Champions League. On the 30th of June, 2010,Manchester City revealed that they have reached an understanding and agreementwith Valencia CF to transfer Silva to Manchester City for a period of 4 years.This transfer was to be effective from the 2010-11 season onwards.

On the 14th of August, 2010, Silva made a debut for the club in a matchagainst Tottenham Hotspur which resulted in a 0-0 draw. Silva managed to scorehis first goal for the club in the Europa League group match which was held inopposition to FC Red Bull Salzburg.
